WASHING MACHINE

The number of times a washing machine is used and the speed at which the spin cycle revolves, if it were a car with

a speedometer it would have gone "round" the clock several times.

There is probably no greater and more worthwhile invention of modern times like it.

Take this scenario:Everybody has to wear clothes which have to be washed, just like everybody needs to eat..

BASIC WORKINGS

When you turn on the machine the inlet valves open to allow water to flow into the machine by way of the detergent

dispenser

When the water reaches the required level it triggers the pressure switch that closes the inlet valve, which in

turn

activates the element that heats the water to the required selected temperature.

The heating element switches off and then the motor begins to turn the drum where the clothes are in.

At the start of the wash, the drum revolves slowly at first mixing the clothes together with the water and

detergent

At intervals, the pump empties the machine and refills it with fresh water.

Final wash allows you to add fabric conditioner

The drum then spins the load at full speed to empty the water and semi dry the clothes.

The unique thing about all washing machines is that the locking switch on the door prevents anyone from opening the

machine mid wash.

The water in the machine is emptied via a hose which is either attached to the outlet pipe of the sink, bath or

kitchen or as a stand

alone pipe directly connected to the drains.

An important factor of all washing machines is that you must not overload the machine, but there must be some

"free" movement within

the drum-as a rule if you can get both hands into the top of the drum with ease after you have loaded the machine,

then there is

enough space left for the clothes to spin around freely.

MAINTENANCE

1. After use-clean the door seals and drum-keep the plastic around the drum dry, otherwise it will develop a black

mould like fungus.

2.wipe and wash the detergent dispenser after every use

SPOT CHECKS

1.Are the hoses behind the washing machine straight and not bent thereby stopping water from going into the

machine?

2.Is the door closed, did you hear it "click" shut?

3.Are the stopcocks that allow water to flow into the machine on? These are usually coloured "red" for hot water

and "blue" for cold

4.Have you switched the machine on??

5.Have you selected the correct setting?

TROUBLESHOOTING

machine will not spin

1. faulty motor-get a new one if you know how to fit one otherwise call the engineers

2. Slipping drive belt-locate the drive belt at the back of the machine and replace or call the engineers

3. Wrong programme setting check settings

4. Faulty door lock-press door firmly and operate machine if it works then the door is faulty if not then you need a

new door lock-time to

call the engineers.

machine does not empty

1. Faulty pump-replace pump-or call the engineers.

2. Filter blocked-remove and run under the tap to clean

3. Outlet hose blocked or bent-flush out hose and check for items logged in hose.

water leaks from the machine

1.worn door seals-replace door seals, or call the engineer

2.worn hoses-check the condition of all the hoses and replace if necessary.

noisy machine

1. sharp objects in the drum like keys, nails, coins etc.

2. faulty door-check or call the engineer

excessive vibration

1.The machine is not level-place a spirit level on top of the machine and adjust the feet under the machine until

level.

2 The concrete counterbalance has become loose-tighten with a spanner

3.Too much clothes in the machine-remove some of the clothes and re wash

door will not open

1. Faulty door switch-replace or call the engineer

2. Water remains in the tub-drain and try to open.

machine does not fill up

1. bent or "kinked" hose-rectify

2. inlet valve filter blocked-this is the red and fry hose that goes at the back of the machine-remove and check

the filters.

3. a faulty water level switch-call the engineer.

machine does not heat up

1. faulty heating element-call the engineer

2. faulty thermostat-call the engineer to test all the connections
